So — I’ve received my AncestryDNA results, and I’m having mixed feelings about them.  According to the results, I’m 71% Scandinavian, 18% Southern European, and 11% British (I’m assuming Celtic Britain).  That’s interesting information, and fairly jibes with what I’ve been able to find out about my family tree — the Scandinavian Vikings settled Normandy, who then conquered Britain.  One side of my family goes up to Britain, then Normandy, then to Scandinavia.  I’ve also followed part of that line to Rome.  The other side of the family is heavily Bavarian German.  Bavaria is next to Italy, if memory serves me right.  So, the Southern European percentage makes sense. 

What I find a little disappointing about the results is the DNA is supposed to evaluate two sources which point to my paternal and maternal ancestors.  I would expect the results to say, “Well, your paternal line is predominately Scandinavian and your maternal line is predominately Southern European.”  That’s not the case.  Instead, they tell me I’m essentially a mutt, which is something I figured out a long time ago.

Another interesting aspect of the DNA thing, is Ancestry.com lists members who are related to me, according to the DNA results.  So far, I don’t know anyone on the list.  And the closest relatives on the list are four people who could be my 4^th cousins (or 5^th, or 6^th).

Big surprise — I’ve started bowling again!  I’ve signed up for the Kansas City Corporate Challenge (KCCC).  My manager, Brian, is the team captain this year.  But that doesn’t mean I’ll get to bowl.  There are try-outs, so I’ve started practicing.  Last weekend, Kayla and I went to the local alley and bowled 3 games.  I averaged a 140-something.  Not bad, for not having bowled in about three years.  Then on Tuesday, I bowled (poorly) during lunch.  I think my average was about 120.  Today I bowled again during lunch, and averaged 154.  Better!  I figure if I keep practicing a few times a week, I might get consistent and good enough to have a chance at making the ScriptPro team.  I’m thinking about joining a league, again….
